Habit #1 – Ice Cube Crunching

It’s common to start chewing on the ice cubes at the bottom of your cup after a soft drink or iced tea. But do you realize that each pleasurable crunch might put strain on your implant-retained teeth, causing them to chip or crack? In general, ice crunching is bad for your teeth, so try to avoid it as much as you can.

Habit # 2 – Smoking

No matter how many cigarettes you smoke each day, one or 50, your oral health will suffer. Smokers are two to three-times more likely to be at danger of losing their dental implants completely. Smoking can also significantly impede the healing process after receiving implants. It can be incredibly challenging to stop smoking once you’ve made the decision. But there are several programs available today to assist make the process easier.

Habit #3 – Eating Sugary Foods

Watch out for the sugar. Sugary foods and drinks feed the oral bacteria in your mouth, which can then progress to gum disease, a serious oral health issue that can compromise the success of your dental implant.
