I Have Lost a Dental Crown, What Should I Do?

January 14, 2023

Dental crowns in Lake Worth are restorative devices that guarantee both your dental health and the aesthetics of your mouth. That’s why if one of them falls out, it’s an inconvenience that you will have to solve as soon as possible, so you can keep enjoying the benefits of this treatment

Apart from the negative consequences in the aspects outlined above, there are other risks that you have to take into account, but that you can avoid if you correct the problem quickly.

Below, we give you the necessary information to intervene urgently in these cases. Let’s take a look:

Why Did It Fall Off?

Crowns and fillings can come loose occasionally no matter the material used. In some instances, deterioration behind a filling or crown may cause it to come free. You can also loosen your crown as you eat sweets like soft candies by chewing them.

Incorrect fit or worn-out dental cement could also be the cause. Eventually, the cement will deteriorate to the point that it becomes brittle and may even break off. Fortunately, we can quickly fix this problem by re-cementing the crown.

How Should I Proceed?

Visit the dental clinic as soon as possible, especially if you have discomfort or are affected by food and drink in the form of sensitivity. The inside of the tooth may have been exposed or the natural tooth portion may be damaged and require immediate treatment.

If it’s not possible to visit the dentist quickly, continue brushing your teeth normally but avoid hypersensitive areas. Failure to do so may cause bacteria to reproduce, inflame your gums, and aggravate the problem.

Broken porcelain cannot be repaired without removing the bridge or dental crown, and to repair it, it must be repaired in the dental laboratory.
